A handyman for Cranbourne, Clyde and the country beyond

Cranbourne Handyman looks after homes, rentals and small businesses across Cranbourne and its neighbours, from the brand-new estates of Clyde North and Cranbourne East to the acreage of Devon Meadows and Cranbourne South, and out along the South Gippsland Highway to Koo Wee Rup and Lang Lang. We take care of the repairs, maintenance and small installations that pile up in every home, so you can get your weekends back.

Our approach is simple. You send us your list. We send back a clear written scope and a free, no-obligation quote. Then we turn up when we say we will, do the work properly, and clean up before we leave. One job or twenty, we plan the visit so as much as possible gets done in one trip.

What we do

We offer twenty-two handyman services, covering almost everything a home needs short of licensed electrical, plumbing and gas work:

Not sure which service your job falls under? It does not matter. Describe it in the quote form, add photos and we will work it out.

Where we work

We are based in the Cranbourne area and work across these suburbs and towns:

Each area has its own page explaining the kind of homes there and the jobs we see most often.

The jobs that pile up

Every house collects a list of small jobs. A door that catches on the frame. A hole in the plaster where a handle hit the wall. Shower silicone that has gone black. A cupboard door hanging crooked. Flyscreens torn by the dog. A fence paling that blew off in the last storm. A TV still sitting on the cabinet because nobody has had time to mount it. None of these jobs is big enough to call in a specialist, but together they make a home harder to enjoy.

That is exactly the kind of work we do. A handyman visit lets you clear the list in one go, done by someone with the right tools, fixings and experience, rather than spreading it across months of weekends.

New homes in the growth estates

Cranbourne East, Clyde, Clyde North and Botanic Ridge are among the fastest-growing areas in Victoria, and thousands of families have moved into brand-new homes in recent years. New homes come with their own list: TVs to mount, blinds and curtains to hang, mirrors and artwork, shelves, flat-pack furniture of every kind, garage storage, clotheslines and garden sheds.

Plasterboard walls need the right fixings, and a heavy TV or shelf fixed into plaster alone will not stay up for long. We find the studs, check for hidden pipes and cables, and choose fixings suited to the load, whether your frame is timber or steel. We also help with the small defects that show up as a new home settles, once the builder’s maintenance period has been used. Always report defects to your builder first, in writing.

Established homes in Cranbourne and its northern and western suburbs

The older streets of Cranbourne and the established estates of Cranbourne North and Cranbourne West hold homes from many decades: post-war weatherboards near the town centre, brick veneer homes from the 1970s to the 1990s, and family homes built in the early 2000s. These homes need maintenance rather than setup. Typical jobs include planing and rehanging doors, patching cracks and holes, regrouting and resealing showers, replacing kitchen cupboard hinges and drawer runners, replacing sliding door rollers, repairing fences and recoating decks.

Repairing is often better value than replacing. A solid door that sticks can be adjusted. A kitchen with sound carcasses can have new hinges and runners. A fence with a few rotten posts can have steel supports fitted. We will tell you honestly when repair makes sense and when it does not.

Acreage, farms and country towns

South and east of Cranbourne, the suburbs give way to country. Devon Meadows and Cranbourne South are known for small acreage and horse properties, while Koo Wee Rup and Lang Lang serve farming districts on the reclaimed swamp land and the eastern shores of Western Port. Larger properties bring bigger lists: gates that drag, post and rail fences, stable and shed doors, verandahs, gutters full of gum leaves and piles of old timber.

We work on these properties regularly and plan visits so the travel time is worth it. Send us everything on your list, from the house to the back paddock, and we will group the work into as few visits as possible. Large new fence lines, welding and earthworks go to specialists, and we will tell you when that is the case.

Rentals and property managers

The Cranbourne area has a large rental market, and many homes in the new estates are owned by investors. We help property managers and landlords with routine maintenance requests, repairs between tenancies and end of lease work: patching and painting, door and lock repairs, blinds, flyscreens, silicone and grout, fences and small rubbish removal. We arrange access through the agent, respect tenants’ homes and send photos of completed work. See our property managers page for more.

Small businesses and community facilities

Shops, offices, clinics, warehouses, schools, clubs and halls all need maintenance. We fix doors and closers, patch and paint, install shelving and noticeboards, hang signage inside, assemble office furniture and handle make-good tasks at the end of a lease. Work can be scheduled outside opening hours. See our commercial handyman page for details.

Safer homes for every age

Small changes make homes safer. For young families, we anchor tall furniture and TV units to the wall, fit stair gates, install cupboard latches, secure blind cords and fit window restrictors on upstairs windows. For older residents and people with disability, we fit grab rails into studs or with suitable fixings, add handrails to steps, change knobs to lever handles and remove trip hazards. Where modifications are funded through a support program, we can follow an occupational therapist’s specifications.

Doors, windows and the daily wear of family life

Doors and windows are the parts of a home we use most, and they are usually the first to show wear. Internal doors drop on their hinges, latches stop catching and handles punch holes in the plaster behind. Sliding doors grind on worn rollers. Window winders strip, locks seize and flyscreens tear. We plane and rehang doors, replace hinges, latches, handles and door stops, fit new rollers and locks to sliding doors and windows, and rescreen flyscreens with standard, fine or pet-resistant mesh. Most door and window problems can be fixed in under an hour each, which makes them ideal for a list visit.

Wet areas: small jobs that prevent big problems

Bathrooms, laundries and kitchens are where small faults turn into expensive damage. When silicone lifts or grout cracks in a shower, water gets behind tiles and under shower bases, where it can rot timber framing and floors unseen. Replacing failed silicone properly, by removing all the old material, cleaning, drying and applying a fresh mould-resistant bead, is one of the most valuable maintenance tasks in any home. We also regrout tiles, replace cracked tiles where spares are available, refit loose towel rails and toilet roll holders, and reseal benchtops, sinks and splashbacks. If a leak is coming from a pipe or tap, a licensed plumber needs to fix that first.

Outdoor timber, fences and paths

Backyards across the area are full of treated pine decks, pergolas, verandahs and paling fences, and all of them weather under Victorian sun and rain. Boards cup and split, nails lift, posts rot at the base and coatings wear away. Regular care adds years to outdoor timber. We replace damaged deck boards and refix with screws, tighten loose balustrades, repair pergola timber, replace fence palings and rails, fit steel post supports to rotten fence posts, and clean and recoat decks and fences. Pressure washing lifts dirt, mould and stains from driveways, paths, patios and fences.

Getting your home ready for sale or lease

Before a home goes on the market or to a new tenant, small repairs make a big difference to how it presents. Buyers and renters notice sticking doors, holes in walls, mouldy silicone, torn flyscreens, wobbly handles and leaning fences. A single list visit can work through these items together, and we can work from your agent’s suggestions, a pre-sale building inspection or an exit condition report.

Working in your home

We treat every home with care. We arrive at the agreed time, protect floors and furniture with drop sheets, keep the work area tidy and take our rubbish with us. If something unexpected comes up, such as rot behind a fitting or a pipe in the wall where a TV was meant to go, we stop and talk to you before going further. We do not start extra work without your agreement.

Storage, shelving and getting organised

Most homes run short of storage sooner or later. We install shelving in garages, laundries, pantries, linen cupboards and wardrobes, fit wall-mounted rails and hooks for bikes, tools and sporting gear, and add floating shelves and wall cabinets in living areas. Every item is fixed into studs, masonry or framing suited to the load, so shelves stay level and secure. Once everything has a place, we can take away the old items you no longer need in a small rubbish removal load.

Keeping up with maintenance

Some owners prefer to book a maintenance visit once or twice a year instead of waiting for things to break. A spring visit might cover gutters, flyscreens, deck cleaning and fence checks; an autumn visit might cover gutters again, door seals, silicone and indoor repairs. Regular visits catch small problems before they become expensive ones.

What we do not do

To keep everyone safe and within the law, we do not do:

  • Electrical work, including new power points, lights or hardwired smoke alarms
  • Plumbing or gas work
  • Structural building work, restumping or underpinning
  • Asbestos removal or work on materials that may contain asbestos
  • Roof work or gutter cleaning on double-storey homes
  • Glass replacement
  • Tree felling

If your list includes any of these, we will point you to the right licensed trade.

Seasons in the south-east

Each season brings its own jobs. Spring is the time to clean gutters, recoat decks and fix flyscreens before the mosquitoes arrive. Summer brings fire danger days on the rural fringe, so clearing rubbish and gutters around buildings matters. Autumn fills gutters with leaves and is a good time to check door seals before winter. Winter, when doors swell and stick and mould appears around windows, is a good time to work through indoor jobs.

Soils, wind and weather

The area’s mix of sandy and clay soils, low-lying former swamp land and open farmland affects homes in ways people often do not expect. Reactive clay and soft ground move with the seasons, so doors stick in winter and cracks open and close. Strong winds sweep across open estates and paddocks, slamming gates and lifting fence sheets. Coastal air near Western Port rusts steel fittings. We take these conditions into account, choosing galvanised or stainless fixings for outdoor work, fitting steel supports to fence posts in wet ground and advising when movement needs a professional assessment.

Guides and advice

Our guides cover common questions from local homeowners, such as dealing with first-year defects in a new build, preparing for a rental inspection, getting a semi-rural block ready for storms, choosing wall anchors and planning a handyman visit so it runs smoothly.
